This book starts well toxic, so much that is almost laughable。 Practices and laws that you can only imagine are applied in war and [toxic] corporate USA。However, carry on reading and you start seeing sensible advice that's actually useful and pretty insightful。 This book starts well toxic, so much that is almost laughable。 Practices and laws that you can only imagine are applied in war and [toxic] corporate USA。However, carry on reading and you start seeing sensible advice that's actually useful and pretty insightful。 。。。more

You may hate the book。 Better READ it。The first impression you get when you read this book is the author promotes unethical practices left and right。 But there is a point we could reflect and develop from this book。 We learn more when reading or observing unethical people。 At least, we would know how not to behave like them。I remember reading The Art of War by Sun Tzu。 I got the same impression and decided to stop it。 But for some reason, I finished the book。 Sometimes, we need to know bad thing You may hate the book。 Better READ it。The first impression you get when you read this book is the author promotes unethical practices left and right。 But there is a point we could reflect and develop from this book。 We learn more when reading or observing unethical people。 At least, we would know how not to behave like them。I remember reading The Art of War by Sun Tzu。 I got the same impression and decided to stop it。 But for some reason, I finished the book。 Sometimes, we need to know bad things not for doing it, but to avoid it better, and to avoid those who practice it。 You would always find bunch of people who might practice these laws around you。 What if some of your colleagues believed in the 48 laws of power。 Imagine some of your friends got inspired by these laws。 Common sense is enough to avoid them, yes。 But this book can give you a better insight to know what they actually do。 There are people who celebrate this book as an effective leadership manual - well, it's their choice。 But, great leadership never appreciates unethical manipulations。 Rather, great leaders serve their followers and promote ethics all around。 You may hate the book。 Better READ it。 。。。more

It’s great, I hate it。Perfect guide to manipulate/skew reality into achieving your goals。I think it would be too idealistic to say these rules are always off limits and speaking the truth is the only way, I would say that there are situations and positions where these rules are essential: politics, war, cut-throat business。It’s also greatly beneficial to know what schemes others might use against you and hopefully be able to counter them; having said that I think I’ll be well served by utilizing It’s great, I hate it。Perfect guide to manipulate/skew reality into achieving your goals。I think it would be too idealistic to say these rules are always off limits and speaking the truth is the only way, I would say that there are situations and positions where these rules are essential: politics, war, cut-throat business。It’s also greatly beneficial to know what schemes others might use against you and hopefully be able to counter them; having said that I think I’ll be well served by utilizing these rules as little as possible。 。。。more

All the information in this book is mediocre at best as it often contradicts itself and is full of non sequiturs and rather irrelevant anecdotes or fables, not to mention that all of it is plainly, crudely, and heartlessly evil。 I do not know what the longer version is like, perhaps it is better, and perhaps it's even worse。 All in all, this book really does not merit all the attention and importance ascribed to it in media, nowhere close to Machiavelli, from the little I have read of him。 The r All the information in this book is mediocre at best as it often contradicts itself and is full of non sequiturs and rather irrelevant anecdotes or fables, not to mention that all of it is plainly, crudely, and heartlessly evil。 I do not know what the longer version is like, perhaps it is better, and perhaps it's even worse。 All in all, this book really does not merit all the attention and importance ascribed to it in media, nowhere close to Machiavelli, from the little I have read of him。 The reason I am giving it two stars instead of one is that I did after all learn a few interesting quotes from it, especially on the margins。 。。。more

I am sure the full book is better。 The concise edition seems to be drawing on a limited number of material and several laws appear slightly repetitive or to re-iterate similar situations that can be summarised as 'all with moderation', 'act outside the box but conceal in conformity'。 Still, the wit and intellect of the author glow throughout and I will read the full book。 I am sure the full book is better。 The concise edition seems to be drawing on a limited number of material and several laws appear slightly repetitive or to re-iterate similar situations that can be summarised as 'all with moderation', 'act outside the box but conceal in conformity'。 Still, the wit and intellect of the author glow throughout and I will read the full book。 。。。more

Recently finished reading 48 Laws of Power by Robert Greene。 It is an intriguing book。 I picked up this book as part of the book club at work, where we choose to read one book a month and get together to discuss the nuances of them。 We have already read and discussed a few books。 I have always been an avid reader。 As a young adult I would perhaps lap up 2 books a week。 My reading preference until recently was from the fiction genre。 I have, admittedly, struggled with reading (and enjoying) non-f Recently finished reading 48 Laws of Power by Robert Greene。 It is an intriguing book。 I picked up this book as part of the book club at work, where we choose to read one book a month and get together to discuss the nuances of them。 We have already read and discussed a few books。 I have always been an avid reader。 As a young adult I would perhaps lap up 2 books a week。 My reading preference until recently was from the fiction genre。 I have, admittedly, struggled with reading (and enjoying) non-fiction books。 As habits go, I would naturally pick up a fiction book over a non-fiction if I have the time to read。 For the past couple years, I have deliberately changed my reading behavior and added a few non-fiction books to the mix。 Having said that, my love in reading remains to be Fiction and that too of the romance genre。 Decidedly adding some more non-fiction books to my reading lists as I move forward。To read my full review visit: https://srushtirao。com/book-review-48。。。 。。。more

The way to knowing self。 The way to observing self and bettering self。 What to take out and what to bring in。 The way to understanding small things that matter。

At first I thought this was too dark for me。 Revealing too many tricks you can use on people instead it makes you aware of things you being since day one but not realising it。 You can be hero or villian depends how you use。

I just can’t describe how much I loved this book。。 it was, indeed, informative and the laws were well explained。。 must read。。

The book is poisonous but unfortunately really true, you don’t have to follow every law mentioned but it’s good to know how powerful characters react and behave。 I founded also helpful for dealing with “enemies” and how to react to there actions with your mind not emotionally

Basically a manual on how to be a politician。 Robert Greene is like that wise old mentor in every Hero's journey。。。 if that very same mentor would advice the hero to burn down an orphanage filled with newborn fluffy kittens, slaughter any surviving ones, then blame the whole thing on the town priest。 While making a profit。 Then have sex with the poor bastard's wife (I've also read Greene's Art of Seduction and am therefore an expert on the subject)。 Reading Greene's work makes you feel slightly Basically a manual on how to be a politician。 Robert Greene is like that wise old mentor in every Hero's journey。。。 if that very same mentor would advice the hero to burn down an orphanage filled with newborn fluffy kittens, slaughter any surviving ones, then blame the whole thing on the town priest。 While making a profit。 Then have sex with the poor bastard's wife (I've also read Greene's Art of Seduction and am therefore an expert on the subject)。 Reading Greene's work makes you feel slightly uneasy (certainly a bit guilty about enjoying it), but at the same time the guy's got a point about the whole human nature thingy。 I'd advice on reading the full edition, because all the historical examples that go with each "law"are a treat。 I'd also advice on not slaughtering newborn kittens。 Best make some other schmuck do it。 。。。more

Personally I feel like the book recommends too many ways to 'act' and to gain power, if you were to follow the book 100%, you'd lose your sense of self。 Everything is just and act。 It ruthless and cunning but I can see how its used it could be applied to manipulate people。。。 Personally I feel like the book recommends too many ways to 'act' and to gain power, if you were to follow the book 100%, you'd lose your sense of self。 Everything is just and act。 It ruthless and cunning but I can see how its used it could be applied to manipulate people。。。 。。。more

This book has some nice ideas but overall I was uncomfortable with the type of person it tries to turn the reader into。

Not a friendly book, and mildly immoral, but it’s simply realistic。 It covers war strategies implemented in history, and it’s up to you to decide which laws will work for you and your moral compass。 I think the concise version is enough to get the point across, and is easy to come back to if need be。

I liked the book in practicality and found many useful tools to increase your worth and protect yourself。 The obvious knock on the book is that, if placed in the wrong hands, it could be all the motivation a truly evil person would need to dominate others。 For that reason, I can’t recommend the book to most。

To be honest i did not enjoyed the book fully because i find the content of the book completely alien to my social culture and my personal belief system but still i read it couple of times and went on to buy the full version of the book to understand the ruthless art of playing the game, which was not taught in our popular Indian/Dharmic Narrative。 We people believe in goodness for all, prosperity for all and opportunities for all as per their capabilities。The book is ruthless for sure but its a To be honest i did not enjoyed the book fully because i find the content of the book completely alien to my social culture and my personal belief system but still i read it couple of times and went on to buy the full version of the book to understand the ruthless art of playing the game, which was not taught in our popular Indian/Dharmic Narrative。 We people believe in goodness for all, prosperity for all and opportunities for all as per their capabilities。The book is ruthless for sure but its all about projecting crude power and winning the game by outplaying everyone around you including your master, thats genius which is absent from our inclusive culture。After reading the book i realized how Naive I was with respect to competitive folks out there。 I still do not use the laws provided in the book but their knowledge helps in putting things in perspective while dealing with Alpha Males and Alpha Females。 。。。more

This was a interesting read。 I debated for what seemed like 5 minutes in which shelve to place this book: self-help or psychology? At the end I went for psychology to not give a wrong idea to whoever might see this review on what the book is about。 Sure, it counts as self-help by listing methods in which one can influence other decisions (such as getting their help and refraining from creating enemies) but by psychological approaches such as by pleasing to their emotions and wants。 That is a important distinction that should be kept in mind when deciding to read this book。 contrary to what some reviews say - this does not make you evil somehow。 Just because you are trying to take advantage of a situation involving someone you are not being 'evil' or 'bad'。 So throw away the guilt。 One can also look at it from another perspective in opening themselves up to various tactics to keep in mind to avoid falling in the trap of someone else and function as their 'slave'。 This book is also great for someone who just wants to improve their social behavior such as me。 It lists what to some people is obvious: free gifts could just be a trap to guilt and get trapped in doing favours for the gifter。 However, this can be overlooked by many people。 This book can help those people to live up to their greatest possibility and be wary not to be 'used'。 Some people might not agree with everything in this book, neither do I, yet I did learn a lot that I didnt know before, which I shamefully have to admit, others have used against me to make me their slave。 While not realizing these traps at the time, I do now and am able to be more cautious in who I help and notice general red flags in how they treat me and their ultimate goals, which usually are not to help me as well but just say this as a method of deception, especially if they are after a big goal they can only reach with your help。 。。。more

Unless you are greedy, hungry and lusting for power The 48 Laws of Power would not appeal to you much。 To me the book was written for those who have real need to gain power at the expense of others even if it costs one's integrity, honesty and the real sense of leadership。I believe that The 48 Laws of Power is a collection of precious advice in the time of war and political conflicts。 It is useful in the live-or-die situations where lack of power incurs a real threat。 Although some Laws give foo Unless you are greedy, hungry and lusting for power The 48 Laws of Power would not appeal to you much。 To me the book was written for those who have real need to gain power at the expense of others even if it costs one's integrity, honesty and the real sense of leadership。I believe that The 48 Laws of Power is a collection of precious advice in the time of war and political conflicts。 It is useful in the live-or-die situations where lack of power incurs a real threat。 Although some Laws give food for thought in a professional environment, the book doesn't really apply to this environment as it, in my opinion, will backfire and causes loss of a professional brand that managers or leaders strive to build throughout years。As leader one can never use the law of ""Never put too much trust in friends, learn how to use enemies"" as Trust is the essence of successful leadership。 Likewise, if you ""Conceal your intentions"", you lose honesty with people which deems you anything but transparent and trustworthy。I would not recommend this book to business people who are willing to build up connections to achieve win-win relationship。 However, if 'Power', as this book defines it, is the only resort to achieve what you aspire to, this is the recipe you need to have。 。。。more

All that goes on in the book happens in real world。 The tactics used to govern or rule folks in different parts of the world are well out lined here。 The game of power and leadership plays a major role here。 I would say that manipulation at it’s finest form is the Key in the book。 Would I recommend it? Maybe to those who are in power and wanna keep power or those in law profession。
